Did you know that we spend 36 years in bed? That’s a lot of time to spend in the bedroom!
For this reason, it’s important that it’s a space where you can feel happy and comfortable in. One thing that can make a major difference is what color your walls are. And the good news is, it’s not too hard to paint a bedroom, so you can have a quick makeover in a pinch!
If you’re interested in hearing more, then keep reading. Here’s a quick guide on bedroom painting!
Choose the Color(s) First
You don’t want to just wing it, so research colors first. Think about what your favorite colors are and what calms you; you’ll want to pick these for your bedroom since it’s a place to rest and relax.
Some paint companies allow you to order samples, so do this if you can. That way, you can test out a little paint on your walls to see if they remain true to how you imagined them to be.
Once you’ve decided on some colors, account for 1 gallon of paint per 400 square feet to buy enough paint.
Get the Right Tools
To paint your bedroom properly, you’ll need the right tools. Generally, you’ll need these things:
- Paintbrushes
- Paint roller
- Paint roller extension pole
- Painter’s tape
- Drop cloths
- Paint tray
Prep Your Bedroom
If possible, move all your furniture out of your bedroom. That way, you’ll have more space to work in and you won’t risk staining your pieces. However, if this isn’t possible, you’ll want to cover them with a drop cloth, as well as the floor.
You’ll also want to line your room’s corners, door and window casings, and base and crown moldings with painter’s tape.
Open your windows and run a fan to get proper ventilation.
Mix Your Paint and Get to Work
When you open your paint, you’ll want to stir it up with a wooden paint stick to ensure it’s uniform. While you’re painting your room, make sure you re-stir it every once in a while.
When painting your walls, use even and uniform strokes. Wait for the coats to dry and clean up!
