CBD has continued to soar in popularity over the past few years. And with that popularity comes a lot of misinformation.

Perhaps you’ve seen it in headlines or on other blog sites. And you’re left wondering what is true and what isn’t. What is all this CBD business about anyways?

1. CBD Gets You “High”

One of the most common CBD oil myths is that it has psychoactive effects, like regular cannabis.

This is patently false. Cannabis plants are full of different chemical compounds called cannabinoids. The compounds that are responsible for the “high” are generally THC delta 8 and delta 9. 

CBD is another cannabinoid that has no psychoactive effects. Rather, it acts on our nervous systems to help feelings of pain and stress. 

So if you’re worried about being inebriated on CBD, don’t be. Other than a general lift in mood, you won’t be seeing sounds or tasting colors any time soon.

2. The Science Doesn’t Support CBD

While this may have been true in the past, this is no longer the case. After the Farm Bill was passed in 2018, this allowed CBD to be grown and used as long as it is derived from plants with less than .3% THC content.

This has led to a boom of research on CBD’s effects. Even before 2018, the World Health Organization published research showing CBD’s effectiveness in treating certain types of seizures. 

This report was followed up in 2018, stating that CBD is generally safe for its primary uses: pain, stress, and seizure relief. 

As our scientific knowledge and the cannabis industry grows, we will likely learn even more about its usefulness. 

3. CBD Is Addictive

Another common CBD oil myth is that it is addictive. 

Referring back to the WHO report, their studies have shown that CBD is non-habit-forming.

However, certain people may develop a psychological dependency on it over time. 

The difference is, you won’t have any physical or mental side effects from stopping CBD use, as opposed to lots of other substances and drugs. 

In fact, some research shows that CBD may help ease withdrawal symptoms from other addictions. 

4. CBD Is Sedating

One of the common conceptions people have about cannabis is that it is sedating. This carries over to CBD oil myths as well.

On the contrary, people who use CBD often report feelings of increased mood and overall “lightness.” 

This stress relief can lead to an easier night’s sleep. However, the cannabinoid compound responsible for the groggy, sleepy feeling is myrcene, not CBD. 

5. CBD Works Fast

This CBD oil myth is so common that many people stop using it after not feeling the effects within a day or two.

CBD takes time to get to work on our nervous systems, often two weeks or more before differences are reported. 

So give it some time before deciding that it’s not working!
